Sinha highlighted the importance of millets in addressing changing agricultural and health needs, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Shree Anna vision. He said millets require less water, can grow in difficult weather conditions and can contribute to healthier diets through foods such as bajra rotis and ragi dishes.
The Lieutenant Governor also pointed to the potential of millet-based foods in addressing lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, while stressing the need to bring traditional millet products back into everyday diets. He also underlined the role of millet cultivation in supporting farmers and building more sustainable food systems.
At a seminar at GMC Jammu, Sinha called for better millet varieties, greater public awareness and stronger market opportunities for women and youth. The focus, he said, should help expand millet-based opportunities while supporting rural economies.
The National Dialogue brought together stakeholders from agriculture, science, health and entrepreneurship to examine how millets can contribute to climate-resilient farming, sustainable food systems and healthier communities.
